About the Speakers
Alexis Abramson
Dean of the Columbia Climate School
Professor of Climate
Alexis Abramson is a leading climate thinker and expert in sustainable energy technology, with deep experience in academic leadership and public service. Her research spans thermal transport, nanostructured materials, and building energy efficiency.
Before joining Columbia in January 2025, Professor Abramson served as Dean of the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. Previously, she was the Milton and Tamar Maltz Professor of Energy Innovation at Case Western Reserve University and a director of the Great Lakes Energy Institute. She is also a co-founder of Edifice Analytics, a startup focused on virtual energy audits and building efficiency optimization.
During the Obama administration, she served as Chief Scientist and Manager of the Emerging Technologies Division at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office and has advised Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Professor Abramson holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
Lisa Sachs

Lisa Sachs is a globally recognized expert on how investment laws, policies, and business practices shape sustainable development outcomes. Since joining CCSI in 2008, she has built and led its interdisciplinary research and advisory work supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
She works closely with governments, international organizations, financial institutions, companies, and civil society worldwide to influence investment policy and practice toward more sustainable outcomes.
Professor Sachs holds a BA in Economics from Harvard University, a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a JD from Columbia Law School, where she was a James Kent Scholar and earned the Parker School Certificate in International and Comparative Law.
