Join us for dinner and conversation with Teachers College Trustee and Executive Director and Company Secretary of CK Hutchison Holdings, Edith Shih (TC’77, TC’78), at the Hilton Hotel on Thursday, October 24th at 7 p.m. Edith will speak on the topics of corporate governance in Asian companies and women empowerment and also reflect on her experience as an alumni leader for both Columbia and Teachers College. This event is being held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Singapore Business Association.

About Edith Shih
Edith Shih is Executive Director and Company Secretary of CK Hutchison Holdings, a publicly traded Fortune 500 conglomerate that operates in over 50 countries with turnover of over US$60 billion and 300,000 employees. At CK Hutchison Holdings, Shih oversees legal, compliance, governance and corporate finance matters of the group, with a team of about 280 lawyers worldwide and corporate compliance staff of about 60. She holds BS (Music Education) and MA (Education) degrees from the University of the Philippines and MA (TESOL) and EdM (Applied Linguistics) degrees from Columbia University. She is qualified to practise law in Hong Kong, England, Wales and Victoria, Australia. She is a Fellow of both The Chartered Governance Institute and The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries, holding both Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional designations.
Throughout her legal career, Shih has received numerous prestigious awards, including Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year, Asian Woman in Business Law, General Counsel of the year, etc. Her relentless efforts in promoting good governance and ethics in the corporate world both locally and internationally won her and her company numerous awards in corporate governance and CSR in Hong Kong and Asia.
Some of the panels and committees of public service, regulatory and professional bodies she is involved in include: The Chartered Governance Institute (International President and Chairman of the Executive Committee), Teachers College, Columbia University (Trustee), Council and the Human Resources Committee (Member) of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Governance Committee (Chairman) of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountant, and the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (Member), the Securities and Futures Appeals Tribunal (Member) and the Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme Vetting Committee (Member).
Shih is past President and Advisor Emeritus of the Columbia University Alumni Association (Hong Kong), having been involved with it since 1984. She is the founder of Ivy Ball which held its 31st session this year. She was a member of President Lee Bollinger’s International Advisory Board. In 2010 she joined the Board of Trustees of Teachers College after serving as a member of the President’s Advisory Council. She has set up a scholarship each at Columbia College and Teachers College to benefit Asian students.
In her leisure, she enjoys music making skiing and scuba-diving. She is soprano soloist and chorus member of the Hong Kong Oratorio Society. She has spent over 30 years as Executive Committee Member and Legal Advisor of Helping Hand, a local charity that looks after the elderly as well as Sponsor of Po Leung Kuk children, a local orphanage. She devotes much of her time mentoring university students and young professionals.
