At a moment when the world is facing a stark choice between integration and nationalism, the so-called Brexit referendum was the crystallization of this simmering divide. Brexit has therefore not only implications for the UK- EU relationship, but may be a gauge of broader global opinion on the future of international trade and political relationships. Andrew Staples – Chief Economist - South East Asia & Corporate Network Director, The Economist

Corporate Network

Andrew provides the Economist Corporate Network’s members with insight on a range of topics related to economies in East Asia. He regularly chairs major Economist events, delivers briefings to senior executives and public figures, and appears in the international media. Prior to joining the Economist Corporate Network, Andrew lectured at universities and business schools in the UK and Asia, and has published widely on international political economy, foreign direct investment and comparative management. Andrew has an MSc in East Asian Business and a PhD in International Political Economy from the University of Sheffield and was a Ministry of Education research scholar at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo (2001-2003).

Andrew Naylor – Chairman of Conservatives Abroad Singapore

Based in Singapore since 2010, Andrew was an executive director of Cicero Group, a public policy consulting firm. He was a member of the Board of the European Chamber of Commerce in Singapore from 2012 – 2016. Working in international public policy, Andrew provides commentary on political and economic developments for a number of broadcasters and media outlets. Andrew graduated from the London School of Economics in 2006 and the College of Law of England and Wales in 2007.

Dr. YEO Lay Hwee – Director of the European Union Centre in Singapore

An international relations professional, Lay Hwee’s research interests focus on comparative regionalism, principles of multilateralism and governance networks. She has written extensively on issues pertaining to Asia-Europe relations and in particular, relations between the EU and ASEAN. She participates actively in policy dialogues and academic workshops, and contributes regularly to commentaries and academic journals. For her exemplary record in research and policy work, Lay Hwee was awarded the Nakasone Yasuhiro Award in 2007. Apart from her work at the European Union Centre, Lay Hwee is also Council Secretary and Senior Research Fellow at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, Adjunct Fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, and co-Editor in Chief of the Asia Europe Journal.
